Spotswood

Spotswood is  a small town of approximately 2.5 square miles in central Middlesex County, New Jersey.  The borough had a population of 8,257 as of the 2010 Census.

In 1908 Spotswood became an independent community with a population of about 800 at the time. A health camp opened in 1913 on Spotswood Lake making Spotswood a summer vacation spot. Small bungalow type homes occupied only in the warm weather were built in the area of the lake now known as DeVoe Lake. Today most of these homes are renovated into homes to live in year round.

Not until after the second World War did Spotswood housing and population really start to grow.  In the very late 1940's and throughout the 1950's modest homes on good sized lots were built. School and local business soon followed, and Spotswood became a small local town with a identity and personality all its own.

More, larger houses continued to be built from the 1960's to present. Today, although most to the available real estate is developed, Spotswood retains that friendly small town feel.  Because of that, residents are proud to call Spotswood their home.

The main roads that pass through Spotswood are Middlesex CR 613 connecting Monroe Township to the south and East Brunswick Township to the north. and Middlesex CR 615 connecting Helmetta in the southwest to East Brunswick Township in the northwest. Route 18 is just a mile or so outside of town & access to the New Jersey Turnpike is not much further.

The Spotswood Public Schools serve students in pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade. All public students from Helmetta attend the Spotswood schools, along with students from Milltown who attend Spotswood High School as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Milltown Public Schools.

Immaculate Conception Pre-School and Immaculate Conception School operate under the supervision of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Metuchen.
